Rangu’s musical journey started on the piano at the age of 6, eventually attending Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester after successful audition at age 13. Here, he studied Classical Piano academically and explored the foundations of Jazz Piano and Music Production as he progressed to 6th form. He continued his study of Jazz Piano at Leeds Conservatoire where he flourished whilst also undertaking Music Production as a minor subject. Rangu became an in-demand piano player in the local scene, performing with Billy Goulding, Conrad Clenton, nova.sol, LCSU Big Band, Molly Aisha, Leeds Conservatoire’s own Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Dabie Simul, Pedraum Agahi, Devon Salinas, as well as his own hip hop jazz fusion trio R-UNIT.
Around half-way through his undergraduate degree, Rangu took a little step back from performing as a keys player to pursue his interests in music production by making connections through Halemtina and Tone Central. He eventually became a figurehead and playmaker in the Leeds Hip Hop and RnB scene as the Director of A&R and Producer at Leeds based record label Wavio Records. He was the first tech host of The Wavio Way Podcast and has also worked with Ray Productions.
Rangu has a huge love for hip hop taking inspiration from the likes of Kanye West, Scott Storch, Dr Dre and has absorbed himself in the sub-genres of trap, G-funk, sample chopping, early 2000s, RnB, jazz rap, UK drill, afrobeats and dancehall. Coming from a classically trained jazz pianist constantly evolving his sound, the explosion of relentless experimental ideas rupturing from the mind is an experience to behold. Without a doubt, RanguBown is a respected, well-rounded musician, wherever he goes…
